Brow Lift (also known as eyebrow lift or forehead lift) is a type of cosmetic surgery that rejuvenates the forehead and areas adjacent to the eyes, reversing the effects of sagging, asymmetry and heavy creasing. It provides a graded and precisely adjusted lift, yet is gentle to the forehead and leaves only minor scarring that is hidden behind the hairline. The procedure is often used to complement facelift surgeries in order to get a balanced result across the full face.

Why is Brow Lift Needed?

With age eyebrows generally droop down and look sagging. Sagging eyebrows can further cause a sagging upper eyelid. Sagging eyebrows make you look older than you are. It also makes you look angry and worried.

A brow lift surgery can uplift the sagging eyebrows and give you a more refreshed and pleasing appearance.

Preparing for Brow Lift Surgery

Preparing for this surgery includes first and foremost a consultation with your plastic surgeon. At KIMS Hospital, Hyderabad you can book a consultation with Dr. Sharath, the head of plastic surgery department. During the consultation, Dr. Sharath will:

Review your medical history: You will be asked questions about your current and past medical conditions, about any treatments you underwent. You will also be asked if you are allergic to any medication.

Discuss your expectations: You will be asked about why you want a brow lift surgery and what kind of results you are expecting. You will also be explained about what the surgery can do for you and what it can along with any risks and complications it may entail.

Do a physical exam: To determine how to proceed with the treatment, the doctor will examine your face and eyebrows with your eyes closed and open. Photographs of your face might also be taken for medical records.

Before surgery you will also be asked to quit smoking (if you are a smoker) before surgery and recovery period. You will also be asked to avoid certain medications and arrange everything at home for post surgery recovery and care.

Eyebrow Lift Surgery Procedure

Brow lift surgery usually takes about 1-2 hours and the patient is discharged on the same day. In most cases local anesthesia is used during the surgery, but if required, general anesthesia can also be used.

There are different techniques available to plastic surgeons for eyebrow lift surgery. The technique used by your surgeon will depend on your condition and desired results.

Endoscopic Brow Lift: It involves making several small incisions behind the hairline and inserting a thin tube with light and tiny camera mounted on its end, through one of the insertions to view the underlying tissues.

Coronal Brow Lift: It involves making incision behind hairline on top of your head from ear to ear and lift the forehead and scalp to its new position. The overlapping scalp on top is then removed and the 2 scalps are sewn together. This is not suitable for people with high hairline.

Hairline Brow Lift: This involves making incision on top of the forehead, at the beginning of the hairline. A small amount of skin and tissue will then be removed from the forehead only instead of scalp. This technique is suitable for people with high hairlines as the hairline won’t be pulled back further.

Post Surgery Care and Recovery

After the surgery, you head/forehead will be wrapped with bandages and a tube might be placed at the incision site to drain excess blood or fluid.

You will be given instructions by the doctor to care for the incisions and will be given medications for pain relief.

In the first few days after surgery you should:

  • Rest with you head in an elevated position

  • Apply ice pack on incision site to reduce swelling

  • Avoid too much movement of the head.

Bandages on your incisions will be removed in 2-3 days and suture in 7-10 days. It takes 2 to 3 weeks for complete recovery, however you can resume work within 7 to 10 days.
